Men in Suits

Men in suits
   walk the rich wooded corridors
   to sanctimonious halls
where they tally their monetary compensations
   and accept bribes
The lobby is occupied by wintered men
who judge with envious hearts and strong
   partisan condemnations
Newcomers narrowly eye power and coin
the interchangeable sin for all politicians
Menopausal giants and fools
   fall for skirts or addictions
   pocketing the graft while justifying
   their spreading waistlines.

The constituents and wetbacks work
under the weight of a flag
whose thin fabric leaves them cold
   and numb
Their tired voices are lost
   behind the volume of law
and the monopoly grip of CEOs

...The weary masses exploited for Caesar’s coin
   tire...
traffic frustrations
taxes and fines
testimonies and franchise
TV dinners and walled fences
and President Day sales
