An Old Woman

An old woman
pushing an ancient dog
   in a stroller
slowed at the sidewalk

Cataracts marked the two of them
and the loss of luster
   on fur and hair

The stroller wheel
creaked and complained
   at every sidewalk crack

The wrinkles of the neighborhood
forgotten or overlooked
   in budget cutbacks

But what stories
these three must have
   the woman, the dog,
and the sidewalk
